In the 1990s, O’Sullivan and a team at CSIRO created the technology that is used in Wi-Fi to make it easier to use WIFI. O’Sullivan won this award in 2012 for making the WLAN as fast and as powerful as the cabled solutions of its time.Ĭlick on image for link to interactive infographic In 2012, he won The European Inventor Award which was awarded by The European Patent Office. O’Sullivan has also earned numerous awards for his contributions towards technology and science. In 2009, O’Sullivan was awarded both the CSIRO Chairman’s Medal and the Australian Prime Ministers Prize for Science. Then in 1974, O’Sullivan earned his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from Sydney University. In 1967, O’Sullivan earned his Bachelors of Science from Sydney University. While working with the equipment, O’Sullivan found ways to make processing data more effective and efficient through digital hardware, which led to the Wi-Fi that we use today. After Stephen Hawking introduced the idea that black holes might not be black, John O’Sullivan used his newly received PhD in electrical engineering to support Hawking radiation. O’Sullivan is also credited as one of the inventors of Wi-Fi.
